The service appointment was straight forward, I was out in just under an hour. According to my service papers I was helped by Hunter. He was nice, helpful, and made sure all my questions were answered. The actually facility itself was very nice. The waiting lounge was spacious with plenty of seating and stuff to keep you busy. There is also a well stocked coffee/tea and snack area.

If you’ve decided to test or get a Subaru, go see Hunter in Ballard, he’s about as friendly and low pressure as they come. I was not asked for a review, I did one because he didn’t ask.

Buying a new car when you know exactly what you want can be a headache. I went to Carter Subaru Ballard looking for a manual WRX with a moonroof, but it had to be black or galaxy purple—otherwise I wasn’t buying. There wasn’t a single car in Washington with those specs; the closest option was metallic gray. That’s when Hunter Thompson stepped in. Hunter was the absolute best to work with—super fun, genuinely friendly, and totally down to earth. With his Southern charm and can‑do attitude, he suggested partnering with Carter Acura and using paint protection film so I could get the color I wanted. Within minutes, he had a quote for the work and a clear timeline. Once the plan was in motion, the Carter team realized they might not be able to give the car the level of detail it deserved, so instead of settling, they sent it to Benchmark Auto Salon to make sure everything turned out perfect. The results speak for themselves. Communication was easy and stress‑free: no unnecessary calls, everything handled over text, which is my preferred way to communicate. Hunter worked hard to make sure I drove away with the car of my dreams and followed up after the film was installed to be sure I was happy. If you’re thinking about a Subaru, go to Carter in Ballard. Hunter Thompson truly knows Subarus. He’s an experienced salesperson who goes above and beyond for his customers, making the car-buying process as enjoyable and stress-free as possible (well… as much as buying a new car can be 🤭). I went into this Subaru dealership open to the Forester and Outback. Rave review for Hunter Thompson, Sales Consultant! We went to the dealership to look at the current Subaru lineup. Since I had been driving my 1998 Outback for 28 years, I wasn’t sure which new Subaru model would best fit my current needs. Hunter was extremely thoughtful, walking us through a couple of options, particularly considering both the latest Outback and the current Forester. I was able to sit inside each of them and learn about their different features. In the end, I chose the Forester and couldn’t be happier! He also guided us through the latest dashboard details and showed us how to use the MySubaru app. We found Hunter to be friendly and cheerful, and we look forward to working with him in the future. Macy called me to come take a look at a 2018 Forester I’d been eyeing online. We went for a nice test drive and I fell in love with the car. But seriously, she was amazing! I just bought a car at Carter Subaru Ballard. I highly recommend Hunter Thompson, Sales Consultant. He is the best! I went to Carter Subaru Ballard after seeing a listing about a particular car; but was a couple hours too late, since someone else was already in the process of buying it. Hunter was friendly, knowledgeable, and really listened to me in our discussion of what I wanted. He helped me find and select another car that even more perfectly fit my needs and was slightly cheaper. Now that’s helpful! I recently had my car totaled and received my insurance check for a down payment. I reached out to Subaru in Ballard and was fortunate to speak with Hunter. We quickly scheduled an appointment to check out the new 2026 Subaru Outback that same day. From the very beginning, Hunter was incredibly helpful. He took me for a test drive and explained all the exciting new features, highlighting the differences between the Premium and Limited models, since the Premium Outback I wanted hadn't arrived yet. Hunter made the entire process seamless and enjoyable with his friendly and upbeat attitude. He kept me updated on the arrival of my car and even came to pick me up when it arrived! Going to Carter Subaru, and then going to another car dealership, really shows how good Carter Subaru is. They are more honest than other dealers, and very thoughtful in their customer service. Hunter knew his products very well, and was able to quickly and effectively explain model and pricing differences. All my friends recommended this dealership, and I’ll recommend it to all my friends.

I do not recommend buying a vehicle from or having service performed at this Subaru dealership. They regularly send out service specials and then refuse to honor them when you arrive. This feels misleading and wastes customers’ time. Service pricing is also extremely high. I was charged $76 to replace a cabin air filter that costs about $21 retail. The dealership claimed $40 of that cost was for labor to change a filter located behind the glove box. The actual replacement took roughly five minutes. Between the refusal to honor advertised specials and inflated service pricing for basic maintenance, I would not recommend this dealership for sales or service. Update: Subaru reached out to me and corrected the price claiming it was a new service tech. They also comped the air filter for the trouble.
