Radiator Replacement and Repair - Common Services Available at the Carter Subaru Ballard Service Department

When your Subaru starts to overheat, you should stop driving the car as soon as possible. A severely overheating engine can sustain catastrophic damage from operating at those high temperatures! Instead, you'll want to have the professionals at Carter Subaru Ballard keep your vehicle running at the right temperature. Often, it's as easy as replacing an old radiator.
Why does my Subaru Radiator need Replacement?
Your engine's cooling system is responsible for pulling heat away from the engine. The engine's rapidly moving pistons and other moving parts generate a tremendous amount of heat - but coolant flowing through and around the engine draws out heat. Once the coolant has absorbed a ton of heat, it flows to the radiator. There, the radiator spreads the coolant out over a huge surface area, and ambient air passes through the front grille of your car and over the radiator as you drive. The motion of the cool outside air over the radiator lowers the temperature of the coolant. Then, it's ready to be recirculated back to the engine to start the process over again.

Over time, a radiator can become damaged by accidents, clogged by debris and worn out from corrosive elements in the coolant. When this happens, the coolant won't exchange enough heat at the radiator, and your engine will start to overheat.
In many cases, old radiators made of metals like steel and aluminium could be repaired. At Carter Subaru, we always look at the viability of repairing an existing component verses replacing it, to save you money. That said, most modern radiators are plastic and - once they've been damaged or corroded - they'll need to simply be replaced. A modern, plastic radiator should last you up to 10 years or possibly even more! But if it's been that long and your vehicle is starting to show signs of overheating, a fresh radiator might be just what the mechanic ordered.
