2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Honda HR-V Comparison in Seattle, WA

Subaru SUVs are some of the most popular vehicles throughout the PNW--and the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is an excellent example of why. With its combination of comfortable interior, versatile capability, exceptional safety, and long lifespan, it's the perfect compact SUV for all your driving needs, from the daily commute in Seattle to longer journeys to the Cascades. Standard AWD means that it's better equipped for all kinds of driving.

Though the 2019 Honda HR-V may be a popular SUV on its own, it can't hold a candle to the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. In this article, we compare these two cars side-by-side so you can see just how much more Subaru has to offer before you take the Subaru Crosstrek for a test drive and experience it for yourself.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek Interior

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Honda HR-V: Interior

The interiors of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek and the 2019 Honda HR-V offer extremely similar volume. However, the Subaru Crosstrek provides nearly two cubic inches more front legroom, letting you and the front-seat passenger stretch out more. And while the 2019 Honda HR-V does have a bit more cargo capacity, the Subaru Crosstrek more than makes up for this. Raised roof rails come standard on every new 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, giving you the opportunity to stow extra cargo on top, or to bring bikes, kayaks, skis, and more along for the journey. Roof rails aren't even available on the entry-level Honda HR-V.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek Technology

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Honda HR-V: Technology

Connectivity is essential in the modern world--and staying safely connected while you're in the car is important. The Crosstrek comes with a STARLINK™ Multimedia system that's outfitted with Apple CarPlay™ and Android™ Auto connectivity, reflecting this new reality. While these features can be found on the Honda HR-V, they're completely unavailable on the entry-level trim. What's more, the Subaru Crosstrek has larger touchscreens than the Honda HR-V, as well as a better available audio system (an eight-speaker Harman Kardon system is available in the Subaru Crosstrek; a six-speaker system is the top of the line for the HR-V).

2019 Subaru Crosstrek Performance

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Honda HR-V: Performance Specs

Subaru is all about versatility, which is why the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. This system gives the Subaru Crosstrek all-terrain prowess that's only enhanced by available features like X-MODE® and Hill Descent control. The Honda HR-V, by comparison, is a front-wheel drive vehicle. AWD is available for extra money, but it lacks the other off-road features.

The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is also equipped with a horizontally opposed SUBARU BOXER® engine that gives it exceptional balance and handling. It generates 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, compared to the 141 horsepower and 127 pound-feet you'd get in a Honda HR-V. Even though the Subaru is more powerful, it's still competitive when it comes to gas mileage. When they're both evenly equipped with AWD and CVT, the Subaru Crosstrek gets greater highway fuel economy than the Honda HR-V.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek Safety

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Honda HR-V: Safety Ratings

The standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive does more than just give the Subaru Crosstrek off-road capability; it also increases its safety on slick streets. Of course, when it comes to safety, you don't have to take our word for it. Every year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety puts out a list of Top Safety Picks. The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek received the prestigious 2019 Top Safety Pick+ award, making it one of the safer vehicles on the road today! The 2019 Honda HR-V, by comparison, did not even get the regular Top Safety Pick award.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek Driver Assist Technology

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2019 Honda HR-V: Driver Assist Technology

Driver assist technology has become more common in the last few years, and Subaru has been one of the manufacturers leading this trend. Subaru EyeSight® driver assist technology, which includes features like adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warning, and lane keep assist, is available on even the entry-level 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. While the Honda Sensing® driver assist system has similar features, it's not even available on the two bottom trim levels of the Honda HR-V. You have to upgrade twice just to get driver assist tech in the Honda.
